Catherine Southon Auction

Catherine Southon Auction

If you've yet to discover the joys of auctions, make 2018 the year you do

Catherine Southon

The next Catherine Southon auction takes place on 7 March 2018 at Farleigh Court Gold Club in Selsdon, Surrey, starting at 10.30am. A highlight of the event will be the sale of a number of covers that featured on the satirical magazine Punch. Catherine Southon auctions are good places to source furniture, paintings, glassware, artwork and interesting, eclectic collectibles. Catherine Southon will be familiar to viewers of the BBC's Flog It! and Bargain Hunt.

The British Museum bought most of the Punch archive in 2004, but Catherine Southon's auction on 7th March will include 17 front cover designs in 14 lots with estimates starting from £50 – £70 for single lots and £70 – £100 for those including two or more covers. They are coming from the archive of the artist.

The front covers by cartoonist Smilby were all published from January 1957 to August 1966. They include the front cover that came out a day before the 1959 election, won by Harold Macmillan (which made history as a third consecutive victory for the Conservatives). References are also made to the success of the modern culture, possibly the Beatles who had their last major US tour in August 1966.
