Clearwater Festival - the Great Hudson River Revival

Clearwater Festival - the Great Hudson River Revival

If you're stateside in June, head to Croton-on-Hudson in New York State for the Clearwater music and environmental protection festival. And this year's two-day event marks the centenary of the birth of folk singer, activist and festival founder Pete Seeger, who died in 2014.

Pete Seeger is the man credited with cleaning up the Hudson River and the Clearwater Festival at Croton on Hudson is an annual celebration not only of music but it champions the need to protect the natural world. Clearwater takes place on June 15-16th and the village of Croton is easily accessible from New York City, being less than 50 miles up river. It's heading into summer time in the northern hemisphere and for many people around the world that means yay, it's festival season. The UK's not short of festivals but if you happen to be in NYC in June and want a weekend upstate, as they say, head north up the Hudson River to the Clearwater Festival at Croton on Hudson. Now in its 50th year, the 2019 event is also marking the centenary of the birth of legendary folk singer and activist Pete Seeger.

Clearwater is about music - among the many performers are The Wailers, Railroad Earth, Mavis Staples, Birds of Chicago - but it's also about the Hudson and the river environment, as well as having an eco message: which is that everyone needs to be an environmentalist now. So it's a zero waste festival..that means NO plastic bags folks and no single use plastic cutlery, cups etc.

Other attractions include sailing events, talks and seminars.
