DM Design invests in a biomass boiler

Award for DM Design, which invests in biomass boiler

DM Design - recently voted best for bedrooms in the Scottish Home Improvement Awards - has invested £250,000 in a biomass boiler at its head office

DM Design, which won Best Bedroom Company for the second year running at the Scottish Home Improvement Awards, has put in a biomass boiler at its Cumbernauld HQ. It turns used wood products into heating and saves the company from generating landfill waste. Pictured above: DM Design MD Donald Macleod, left, with operations director Ben Taylor.
The fitted bedroom specialists says their investment means they will be saving the equivalent of 50 large skiploads of waste going to landfill each year. The ultra-high spec 150kW boiler is fed with wood from old kitchen and bedroom units removed from customers’ homes. And the unit also assists in removing dust from the factory, ensuring the 30-strong workforce has a clean working environment.

Operations director Ben Taylor is delighted with the installation: 'Putting in a biomass boiler was a no-brainer. It saves on waste going to landfill, heats our entire factory and lowers our heating bill by up to £10,000 a year.'

DM Design is also celebrating after winning an award for its work in bedroom design. The company, which has showrooms in Aberdeenshire and Lanarkshire, faced competition from some 1,000 fellow entrants in the Scottish Home Improvement Awards in the awards, which recognise excellence in design and craftsmanship.

DM Design offers more than 100,000 room designs across kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms and serves the whole of Scotland.
After the awards ceremony in Glasgow, MD Donald Macleod said to win the award for a second year running was very gratifying: 'Our team is constantly looking at ways to innovate and move forward into the future of bedroom design.
'We make sure our customers always come first and we want to thank them. And can I say I’m already looking forward to next year’s awards ceremony!’
