There probably aren't that many qualified vets in the design world. So given the long and arduous training, it's intriguing to find that Mairi Helena has, certainly for the time being, eschewed a well-paid veterinary career for an altogether more precarious life as a photographer, artist and maker of lovely homewares using textiles printed with her beguiling, ethereal and wonderfully colourful designs.

But as the daughter of weaver parents who grew up in the bosom of the Borders, a love of nature and of making things in innate in her and Mairi has found that what she loves to do is to spending her time photographing Scottish landscapes, painting with watercolours and combining both mediums in Photoshop to develop her designs that don't initially look like paeans to nature, but are.
