Milam Mattress
Milam Mattress
phone: +44 (0)20 3488 4106

Milam Mattress offers superb quality organic latex and coir mattresses to people who want blissful eco-friendly sleep. Milam Mattress was set up by Katalin Korzekwa to bring the 'eco-luxe' mattress to the UK, where Brits are increasingly wanting to sleep on mattresses that aren't full of plastic foam and noxious fire retardant chemicals, and which will bio-degrade at the end of their life.

Milam mattresses are supremely comfortable and are handmade in the UK. Crucially they contain no synthetic PU foam or FR chemicals and you can expect your mattresses to last for a good 15-20 years. Milam's pricing point is considerably less than many established brands offering natural latex and coir mattresses, with singles at £889* and a kingsize at £1,399*. Buy online and get a 30-night trial. If you decide the mattress isn't for you, the company will come and collect it and you will be refunded.

Deco readers can enjoy a 10 per cent discount on their purchase price by using the code DECO10 at the Milam Mattress checkout

Sustainable Kitchens is based in Bristol and makes eco friendly wood kitchens
Sustainable Kitchens
Avondale Works, Woodland Way, Kingswood, Bristol, BS15 1JZ
phone: 0117 961 6471
Sustainable Kitchens specialises in building high quality, bespoke kitchens with minimal impact on the environment. We don't use MDF - we use traditional and sustainable materials, principally hardwoods such as PEFC-certified American white oak; while our clever low profile approach and simplicity in design allow us to keep our prices affordable without compromising on materials or build quality.

We offer a tailored design, build, installation and project management service and we recycle clients' existing kitchens via Freecycle.

Our kitchens are made to last for decades, however we do consider end of life issues and build our kitchens in a way that allows them to be easily disassembled and component parts recycled.

Purely Shutters
Unit 5, Birmingham Trade Park, Kingsbury Road, Birmingham, B24 9PS

Shutters not only look great, they're a recognised energy efficiency measure under the government's Green Deal, with an estimated £96 savings per year on a three-bedroom house (2013). In summer use shutters to keep your house cool, and in winter use them to let in natural warm light, then close them when it gets dark to retain heat in your home. It’s estimated that shutters reduce heat loss from windows by 25-50 per cent, so they're a very sensible investment.

At Purely Shutters we care about the environment and ethics. All our woods are from sustainable sources: we buy cedar from managed forests where a tree is replanted for everyone felled; our laminated wooden shutters come from parasol, a fast-growing farmed wood; and our Warwick range is our most eco-friendly, because no trees have been felled for them - rather the laminate is produced from waste off-cuts not useable elsewhere.

Purely Shutters' products allow you to maintain privacy, especially important if you live in close proximity to your neighbours. But because you can open the slats during daytime, you'll get maximum light in your rooms, which is important because natural light is vital for our health and wellbeing.

Bruissements Charnels 18
Joëlle Kem Lika
2 Rue Saint Sauveur, 75002, Paris
phone: +33 (0)1 7557 6117

Joëlle Kem LIka is an artist whose paintings are life-affirming, exuberant and full of vibrant colour.

At the heart of her work is a wish to celebrate and encourage us all to prize the natural world; indeed she says she draws her inspiration entirely from nature: 'I try to capture the strength of life in my works, such as the force of the sea, the vibrancy of life in the ocean, and the delight to be had from flowers, skies and sunsets.'

She works in watercolour and acrylic paints and genres she specialises in include abstracts, impressionism and painting from the perspective of being in a situation - so as an artist she's imagining what it would be like to be in a wave or to be a ladybird inside a flower.
