Campaign to go pesticide free

If Paris can do it...so can we. The Pesticide Collaboration is urging us to join the campaign the end the use of pesticides in urban areas

make urban areas in the UK pesticide free

We don't need the use of pesticides in towns and villages and should follow France's example and ban their use in towns, cities and private gardens. Image above from Pesticide Action Network.

Local councils and campaigners are urging the new UK Labour government to pan pesticide use in urban areas. They say the recent Olympics have showcased a beautiful Paris, a city that has been pesticide free since 2017.

Campaigners here argue we should live in spaces free of toxic chemicals to protect humans health and wildlife.

More than 150 councillors around Britain have joined 15,000 members of the public in a drive by the Pesticide Action Network to call for urban areas to be pesticide-free.

Amy Heley from the Pesticide Collaboration says many people don’t know that harmful chemicals are sprayed in the areas where they and their children and pets live, work and play. Some claim that, without pesticides, UK towns and cities will be overrun by weeds, but, she says, Paris has shown the world that isn't the case.

At present there is no government-wide ban in the UK, but 100 councils have ended or significantly reduced heir use of pesticides, and 50 are now pesticide-free. If you are concerned about pesticide use, contact your local council and make your voice heard.
